Two Camps + 1 Love = Peace

Reflections From A Veteran Camper

FLC. Two camps, one love, peace. FLC is a place where people can be who they are and you don’t have to hide the real you. You’re accepted for who you are and loved unconditionally by the amazing FLC family. One of the reasons why the FLC family is so wonderful is the people who consistently come back every year; the counselors and campers who make Forest Lake so special. I’ve had the pleasure of spending three outstanding summers with the FLC family, and I hope there will be many more incredible summers in the future. They have given me the chance to try new things that I wouldn’t be able to do at home, like white water rafting, archery, riflery, rugby, cricket, and so much more. Forest Lake has given me the opportunity to express myself and given me new experiences, friendships, and memories that will last a lifetime.

This summer I received the Spirit of FLC award. This award recognizes a camper who most embodies what FLC is all about and who most exhibits the values and beliefs of camp. I was shocked and honored to realize that people at FLC saw me as this person. Receiving the Spirit of FLC award really meant a lot to me because I love camp and knowing that people at camp view me as such a positive influence really made me feel appreciated and loved.

I put in one hundred and ten percent into every activity and event I participate in whether it’s a game of softball or color war. It strengthens my competitive spirit and sportsmanship in everything I do.

No matter how old I get, I will never forget FLC. It is my absolute favorite place in the world for so many reasons. One being that it’s a place to meet new people from all around the world, but also see life long friends that come back every summer. The love and care people at FLC have for you is astounding. They encourage you to always do your best and never give up even when you’ve made a mistake. I will forever remember the memories I have from this summer and past summers; acting insanely ridiculous and laughing so hard we cry, cheering Kim Possible so loudly at mess hall until our voices are gone, boating on the beautiful lake, being crazy at camp socials, the friendly competition of color wars, graduating from Cabin Three, and forever having those cabin memories that only bring us closer (if that’s even possible.) I can still remember my second year of camp, on the first day, Emma Settlemyre running down the hill and hugging me so tightly screaming, “I’m your counselor in cabin three AGAIN!!”

Forest Lake Camp has been my home and summer paradise every year. I’ve learned so many things at FLC, such as knowing what true friendship is, reaching for the sky because the sky is the limit, and never giving up hope.    Alexis K.
