The Golden Arrow is the lifetime achievement award at Forest Lake and is the longest standing staff award. Its recipients are long serving staff members who embody the principles and values of FLC and who continue to give their time and effort to improve camp. This year’s recipient was Sadie Ball!
Sadie began her relationship with Forest Lake Camp with her sister in the early 2000’s. Sadie was a camper for 4 years and a counselor for 4 years. In 2010 Sadie came back to camp as our Program Director.
This was a perfect role for Sadie as she was very familiar with FLC’s activities and has a natural knack for balancing many moving pieces all at the same time, which is a very valuable skill set to possess as a Program Director. Under Sadie’s years of leadership the variety of activities offered have increased, which has had a great impact on the FLC experience for our campers. Sadie became so good at her job, that over time she was given the nickname the “schedulator” – a title that she aptly earned. It is clear that Sadie considers FLC her ‘second home’ as she has made lasting and deep friendships during her time at camp. When Sadie is not found spilled over an excel spreadsheet or putting together the next day schedule, you can find her down at the archery range instructing or just shooting for fun. This summer she accomplished a very admirable feat by becoming an American Archer – making the ‘golden arrow’ an even more symbolic award!
As a camp we are so appreciative of all the hard work and attention to detail that Sadie has dedicated to FLC over the years. She has enhanced our activity offerings and has improved our overall organization. It is needless to say, but we couldn’t have done it without her!
Congratulation to you Sadie, you truly deserve to be an FLC Golden Arrow recipient!
