Waterfront Activities

FLC Girls waterfront

Forest Lake Camp offers a number of different waterfront activities at our girls overnight camp in upstate New York. Some of which include swimming, boating, rowing, funyaks, canoeing, fishing, kayaking, and sailing on Forest Lake, which is our own private spring-fed lake. We also offer waterskiing and white water rafting offsite.

Forest Lake has a completely natural 1.5 mile shoreline broken only by the camp’s sandy beach, beach volleyball court, and dock system. The water quality is tested regularly by the Adirondack Lake Commission to confirm its high quality.

Campers visit the waterfront at least once each day for a general swim period. They might also visit a second time for a watercraft activity.

All Girls Waterfront Activities Involve Instruction

We strongly feel that the more skilled a camper becomes around the water, the safer and more comfortable they will be practicing water-based recreation. All our waterfront activities are considered “lifetime” activities to be enjoyed for years to come.

In order for campers to participate in the range of aquatic activities, each must demonstrate a level of swimming proficiency. Swim instruction is scheduled for campers who request it (or whose parents request it), or those who don’t satisfy the Camp’s basic swim proficiency, are scheduled for swim instruction.

Water Skiing (Off Site)

We also offer a ½ day water-ski clinic with expert instruction, for those campers who wish to learn a new activity or to simply practice their skills. After getting the opportunity to ski many campers love to go tubing at the end of the day. This clinic is available once every two weeks, and is an additional option during enrollment. There are also opportunities to try wake boarding or trick skis.

White Water Rafting

In addition we offer white water rafting trips on the Sacandaga River. We have our own raft and expert guides. These very popular trips are offered at no extra cost to our campers.

Water-Themed Outings

The enjoyment of waterfront activities isn’t limited to Forest Lake. Once a camper accomplishes a requisite level of competence, they can participate in camp trips and competitions. We send out canoeing, fishing, and kayaking trips to local rivers and lakes, which are carefully selected for the appropriate safety and competence level of the Forest Lake camper group. Sailors can join the FLC team and compete in regattas against other local camps. These are wonderful opportunities to apply the skills learned at camp.

Fishing

Fishing has become increasingly popular over the years. Bass and trout are plentiful, and if the catch is large enough our professional kitchen staff is willing to serve up the daily catch that evening.
