Forest Lake Camp offers children an unforgettable experience that challenges and engages learning and growth. Our camp is about people, about relationships, and a community that our campers and alum affectionately call “family”.
Forest Lake camp is in the child development business. We teach lifelong skills, such as learning to share, to cooperate, to try new things, to give and to respect one another and the environment.
[stag_toggle style=”normal” title=”About Ollie Van Cise” state=”closed”]As a community Forest Lake was deeply sadden when we learned of Ollie’s passing on March 8th 2013. Ollie was a highly respected member of the FLC staff for an uninterrupted tenure of thirty years.
He first arrived at Forest Lake as a tennis counselor but soon became the head counselor of the junior camp where he became an institution and touched the lives of hundreds of campers and young staff. Nearly every alumnus from the 50s, 60’s, and 70’s who re-visits FLC asks about Ollie.
Ollie is always remembered for his bugle playing, his puns, his backboard-like tennis ability, and his rendition of the “Golden Argosy”. Perhaps, more important, was the role model that he provided to his charges – the kindness, the fairness, the reliability, and the decency.
Ollie was very tuned in to the needs of young boys and structured a junior program that is always remembered by the many young men who prospered from having attended the junior camp under his leadership.
Ollie’s career, apart from FLC, was as a social studies teacher and guidance counselor in the Chatham (NJ) school system. He was an avid sports fan and a voracious reader. Ollie and his wife, Tally, who also worked at FLC lived in Basking Ridge, NJ where they raised their two children, Glenn and Lynn. Upon retirement, Ollie and Tally moved to Bend, Oregon to be closer to both their children[/stag_toggle]
Campership Fund
We invite you to contribute to Ollie Van Cise Campership Fund. Our campership fund was established in memory of Ollie Van Cise, a highly respected member of FLC for an uninterrupted tenure of thirty years.
Each year we speak to many families, alums and new, who would love the opportunity to experience Forest Lake Camp, but due to financial hardship aren’t able to meet the cost of sending their child to camp. We strongly believe all campers should have the opportunity to experience a summer at Forest Lake Camp and thank you in advance for helping us in this mission.
Forest Lake Camp has partnered with the American Camp Association (ACA) to create the Ollie Van Cise Campership Fund. Contributions payable to ACA can be designated to our Campership Fund.
This program accepts tax-deductible donations, which directly provide scholarships for campers at Forest Lake Camp. The selection of recipients, from scholarship applications received, occurs annually prior to the camp season.
