Alumni Spotlight – Louis Thivierge

Louis + Caroline

Over many decades Forest Lake has enjoyed having legendary brother combinations at camp. Among these would appear the names Meyer, Tilden, Anfuso, Ramsey, Moran, Willetts, Brown, Batlle, etc.. A definite addition to the more recent brother list would be the name Thivierge.

12046837_10153873227331159_7831282409973028390_nLouis Thivierge followed in his older brother, Francois’s, footsteps and arrived at FLC as a camper in 1998. Louis and Francois, at that time, resided in Quebec City, Canada. According to Louis, the primary reason his parents sent him to camp was to learn English. Louis attended as a camper through the summer of 2005, was a member of the Red team, and in his last summer was elected captain of the Reds.

In the summer 2006, Louis joined the camp staff as a general counselor and served in that capacity for the summers 2007 and 2010. He was then asked to take on the duties of Head Counselor of the boys’ camp which he did exceptionally well for the summers 2011-2013 and for which he was awarded the Golden Arrow.

Louis has accumulated an impressive educational resume having graduated from University Laval (Canada) with a BA in political science. He followed his BA with a law degree from Bond University in Australia and from there Louis ventured to Taiwan where he was enrolled in a six month Chinese immersion program. He furthered his law background with a Masters in Law from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China (2016). While studying in Beijing, Louis worked as a foreign legal adviser for a Chinese law firm. Louis then moved to Hong Kong where he did an internship with a “magic circle” British law firm. Currently, Louis is studying for the New York Bar examination for which he will sit next July.

Louis’s time at FLC had a beneficial outcome – it was at camp that he met Caroline Meyer, an FLC legacy and fellow Head Counselor. Louis and Caroline are engaged to be married.

In his spare time (it’s hard to imagine he has any), Louis continues his interest in music playing guitar and drums and enjoys composing music. Among his favorite recollections of FLC are kayaking the Sacandaga, joining climbing trips, memorable campfire performances, and becoming familiar with American culture.

Louis stays in touch with a number of camp alumni mainly through association with the Meyer family as well as with Brett Booker and Sadie Ball.
