The Owl Award (2025) – Lou
The Owl Award is a rare honor at Forest Lake Camp, given only when a staff member’s contributions permanently enrich the camp community. In 2025, the award was presented to Lou, whose leadership, care, and lifelong dedication to the camp’s horseback riding program have transformed it into something extraordinary.
Since first arriving in 2018, Lou has poured endless energy and heart into her work—modernizing safety practices, improving education and engagement, and helping campers and staff alike form deeper, more meaningful bonds with the horses. Her commitment to treating the animals as integral members of camp has reshaped the way everyone experiences the program.

Beyond her technical expertise, Lou has been a mentor, teacher, and source of inspiration—igniting new passions in those around her, whether through her patient instruction or her infectious enthusiasm during themed events. Her return to camp after time away reaffirmed her connection to this place and her willingness to serve whenever she’s needed most.
Lou’s legacy is one of compassion, excellence, and joy. Her influence will continue to be felt in every ride, every lesson, and every camper who discovers the magic of the stables she so lovingly built.
The Lodge Award (2025) – Tom Evans
The Lodge Award honors a new staff member who, despite being in their first or second year, demonstrates the poise, enthusiasm, and leadership of a seasoned veteran. In 2025, that recognition went to Tom Evans, whose creativity, energy, and unwavering spirit transformed a brand-new camp activity into one of the summer’s biggest successes.
Tasked with developing a program that had never quite worked in the past, Tom approached the challenge with imagination and drive. Starting from scratch, he built it from the ground up—experimenting, adapting, and ensuring every camper, regardless of skill or age, could participate and feel included. His work quickly caught fire across both Boys and Girls Camp, becoming a highlight of the season.

But Tom’s impact extended far beyond his activity. He was a constant source of energy and positivity—leading chants in the Mess Hall, keeping spirits high in the cabins, diving into games and theme days with full commitment, and supporting campers and staff alike wherever he was needed. Whether navigating chaotic moments with calm professionalism or finding joy in the smallest moments, Tom embodied what it means to be part of the Forest Lake community.
Dedicated, inventive, and endlessly upbeat, Tom Evans didn’t just join Forest Lake Camp—he became a force within it. His presence set a new standard for what a first-year staff member can accomplish, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who follow.
