To make our 100th summer at Forest Lake Camp truly unforgettable, we’re excited to introduce a new series of specialty clinics—designed to elevate the camper experience by giving campers direct access to expert instructors across our most loved summer camp activities.
Kicking things off on July 8, we’re proud to welcome Andy Krugman for a full day of tennis clinics focused on skill development, confidence-building, and a genuine love for the game.
Andy brings more than 30 years of experience as the Varsity Tennis Coach at Kingswood-Oxford School in West Hartford, CT. A Hall of Fame athlete and championship coach, Andy also understands camp life firsthand as a former counselor and age-group director. His approach blends high-level instruction with energy, encouragement, and fun—creating an environment where campers feel motivated to improve while fully enjoying the process.
And the impact of tennis goes far beyond the court.
Research consistently shows that tennis is one of the most effective sports for whole-child development. In a study published by the National Institutes of Health (Gu et al., 2022), children ages 8–12 who participated in regular tennis training demonstrated improvements in working memory, reaction time, and cognitive flexibility—critical skills tied to learning and decision-making.
Even short bursts of play can have meaningful impact. Research in Neuroscience Letters (Ishihara & Mizuno, 2017) found that just 50 minutes of tennis activity significantly improved executive function in children, supporting better focus and attention both on and off the court.
Beyond cognitive benefits, tennis also supports emotional well-being. A comprehensive review in Frontiers in Psychology (2023) highlights that youth participation in tennis is associated with increased self-confidence, reduced anxiety, and improved emotional resilience.
Socially, the sport encourages connection and character development. Findings from the Women’s Sports Foundation show that young athletes involved in tennis are more likely to demonstrate stronger leadership skills, healthier peer relationships, and higher levels of school engagement.
Physically, tennis remains one of the most complete sports for youth development—building coordination, agility, cardiovascular endurance, and bone strength, while promoting lifelong healthy habits.
At Forest Lake Camp, we believe the best summers combine fun with meaningful growth. These specialty clinics are designed to do exactly that—giving campers the opportunity to build skills, gain confidence, and experience the lasting benefits of sport in a supportive, high-energy environment.
This is just the beginning of what promises to be a standout season filled with skill-building, mentorship, and unforgettable summer moments.
