We are saddened to announce the passing of Cy Combs, a very important member of the Forest Lake Camp Family. Just this week we received news from the Combs family that Cy tragically passed away on Monday, November 28th.  The news came unexpected and has sent a wave of grief through our FLC community. Cy left the FLC community in 2013 to pursue other passions, one of them being writing. Cy spent his final months focused on finishing his horror novel, which genre of writing had been his passion since he was very young. His book was highly regarded by the professional editor he hired to work on it just this summer.  Another reader describes it as a macabre masterpiece, worthy of Poe. The Combs family will strive to publish Cy’s novel in his honor.

Cy was FLC’s Caretaker from 2011-2013. Cy followed the footsteps of his father Russ, Uncle Jerry and grandfather Clif. During his tenure at FLC, Cy often loved chumming around with FLC campers and staff, while sharing his FLC experience and encouraging them to carry forward the traditions of camp that he loved so much as a young camper. Cy was known to add his fun style to campfire and other camp wide events.  He carries an infectious laugh and bright smile that often was heard and seen throughout camp.  Two of his favorite campfire acts were the “Maintenance Challenge”, where he reined as the authority of all things maintenance and all time favorite and opening act to campfire, “Bali-Bali”. His acts were guaranteed to induce much laughter, surprise and cheering from all of camp.

We all miss Cy greatly but he will forever remain in the thoughts and memories of our FLC community. We send the Combs family our deepest condolences and will keep them in our thoughts during this very difficult time.
