Meet Some Of Our 2015 FLC Staff

FLC Counselor What is your name?  Sam Holmes

Where are you from?  Middlebury, Vermont

What is your role at camp this summer? I will be a general counselor and look forward to running a lot of activity periods.

What activities are you excited to teach this summer? I’m really looking forward to running whatever activities I’m able to: soccer, waterfront activities, football, basketball….

What about these activities most excites you? I look forward to playing and teaching the campers everything I can in these activities. What better way to spend the summer than to be rewarded to do the things you love to do.

What three words best describe you? I’d like to say I’m outgoing, energetic, and funny, and I’m excited to bring my talents to the Adirondacks this summer.

If you could be any kind of food, what kind would you be and why? Forced to transform into a food, I would become a sourdough nibbler pretzel because those things are gooooood!

What does working at a summer camp mean to you?  Working at a summer camp means the opportunity to give kids a safe and fun place to be for the summer, to get away from school and all their friends and be able to be themselves with no judgement.

What about coming to Forest Lake are you most looking forward to? I am looking  forward to meeting all the great people at FLC because in my experience I have never met a person who goes to camp that I didn’t like.

If you could be a super hero, what super hero would you be and what would your super powers be? I’d definitely want to be Spider-Man but with the ability to go invisible because how cool would that be?

FLC Counselor What is your name? Aaron Bacon

Where are you from?  Cincinnati, Ohio

What is your role at camp this summer?  Wilderness Team member

What activities are you excited to teach this summer?  I’m looking forward to and very excited to teach kayaking and rock climbing.

What about these activities most excites you?  I love how rock climbing is both a physical and mental challenge; it requires physical strength as well as the ability to problem solve. What I enjoy about kayaking is how it constantly changes; one can go from peaceful waters, to rough rapids, right back into calm waters. I am excited to watch and help as campers progress their abilities.

What three words best describe you? Loyal, fearless, and laid-back

If you could be any kind of food, what kind would you be and why? If I could be any food I’d be a can of Spam because that stuff can survive anything.

What does working at a summer camp mean to you? To me working at summer camp means getting the privilege of working outdoors and sharing my passion for the outdoors with the campers.

What about coming to Forest Lake are you most looking forward to? I can’t wait to see what the camp looks like. I have an idea in my head, but I’m sure the real thing surpasses my imagination. I’m looking forward to walking around the camp and getting a lay of the land.

If you could be a super hero, what super hero would you be and what would your super powers be? If I was a superhero I would be The Baconator, with the ability of cooking bacon to a crispy perfection.

FLC CounselorWhat is your name? Jessica Cooke

Where are you from? I live with my family in a very small village in the countryside near Chester, England. However, during term-time I live in Oxford, where I am studying history at Oxford Brookes University.

What is your role in camp this summer? I will be a general counselor this summer.

What activities are you excited to teach this summer? What about them excites you? I am an all-rounder when it comes to sports and activities, so I am really looking forward to being involved with a variety of different areas of camp, especially swimming, horse-riding and lacrosse. I have loved playing lacrosse, from when I started at school to playing for my university team, and I hope to encourage the campers this summer to experience a similar level of enjoyment out of this sport as I have.

What three words best describe you? Caring, friendly, and positive (I’m always smiling).

If you could be any kind of food, what kind would you be and why? Ice cream – ice cream is a perfect addition to summer and reminds me of all the things I love most about this season.  It is the cold treat that accompanies warm, sunny days spent with family and friends on the beach, in the park or just relaxing at home.

What does working at a summer camp mean to you? My mum spent a summer working at Forest Lake Camp when she was my age and had the best summer of her life there, even now, over 25 years later, she is still talking about the amazing time she had. It was her stories about her time at camp that influenced me to apply to work at Forest Lake too, and I could not be more excited for the summer to come. In my opinion, camp is about everyone (campers and staff) having an experience like my mum had, a summer you will still be telling people about in 25 years.

What about coming to FLC are you most looking forward to? Meeting new people and the range of activities and sports available.

If you could be a superhero, what superhero would you be and what would your superpowers be? As a history student, I have to say that time-traveling is most appealing to me as a superpower. I would love to be able to go back in time to uncover the truth about events from the past, I would be a history detective! I don’t know whether there is currently a superhero with similar motives to this, so I think I will need to create a new one: I will be SuperJess, Queen of Time!
