Every winter at FLC, once the campers, wedding couples, and staff have long departed, new guests move in to call our gorgeous 823 acres home. Deer, bear, coyotes and even an occasional moose have taken temporary residence on our grounds alongside the endless little critters that burrow away in every corner. Last winter we even became the home of two beautiful Bald Eagles who watched over camp from above – maybe this spring we will find a third?
While camp has quieted down, our caretaker (Tyler Guy) and groundkeeper (Gary Confer) continue to work endlessly all winter long to keep camp beautiful and ready for the inevitable return of singing campers and joyous staff. Gary retires to his wood shop where he fixes windows and screens, builds new tables, benches and lockers, and has even been known to build our tennis shed, fencing shed, and various other significant projects. Tyler also remains busy as he is working with a crew to update various areas of camp. In the past several years, Tyler has built our new laundry facility, renovated our lodge office, turned the latrine into a staff cabin, and even built a new cabin in girls camp. This year, the list is no less ambitious as Tyler has continued with major lodge updates (this is what happens with a building that was built in the 1800s!), several cabin bathroom renovations, and a major overhaul to the bedrooms and bathrooms in the infirmary.
So when summertime comes and all the newly established residents move deeper into the woods for peace and quiet, we cannot wait for our FLC families, alums, and guests to continue to see upgrades and improvements across camp. We look forward to sharing all of our property improvements with our FLC families, alums, and guests in 2025 and 2026 as we gear up to celebrate the 100th year of boys camp, 35th year of girls camp, and 15th year of family camp!!
