What happens to our food scraps?

We have always been conscious of our impact on the environment at FLC. From the planting of new trees, to our compost collection and the search for solar solutions, minimizing our environmental footprint is important to us.

Last summer we started a new process in our kitchen in partnership with Hart Homestead Farm in North Creek.

Local farmer Jonathan Hart stops by our kitchen throughout the season to collect food scraps. Our counselors, kitchen staff and campers separate our edible scraps and leftovers into buckets which Jonathan takes back to his farm.

The Hart Homestead menagerie of wildlife, including alpacas, goats, cows, ducks, pigs and even an emu, our leftovers become part of the their diet. This keeps our waste output low and helps feed our furry friends!
