Meet Some of our New 2017 FLC Staff

One quality that makes Forest Lake Camp so unique is its wonderful, caring and professional staff. We couldn’t be more proud of all that our counselors bring to our camp community each and every summer. We look forward each month to introducing you to our new and returning counseling staff.  Over the past few months we have been sharing what our 2016 staff have been up to since the summer ended. In our January newsletter we are excited to share a few NEW staff for summer 2017!

Where are you from? I’m from North Salem, a small rural town in Westchester County, NY. I was born there and have lived there my entire life.

What activities will you be involved in this summer? What excites you about this? This summer I will definitively be involved in taking photos and producing videos of the campers each week and uploading them to the FLC website. I will also be helping teach camper’s English as a second language. Thirdly, there is a possibility that I will be running a robotics class. These are exciting to me because they are various things that I have had the opportunity to learn about and enjoy throughout my lifetime, and I now get to use them every day for seven weeks and get paid for it, as well as share those experiences with campers… what more could I ask for!

What three words best describe you?  Creative, fun, and READY!

What are you most excited to share with your campers this summer? I can’t wait to share my enthusiasm for both learning and having fun. I feel like a combination of the two will certainly help everyone have a slightly better time! I also can’t wait to teach language or music or robotics, because I love all of these things and I believe that some campers might share a passion, and any camper could definitely have fun!

If you could be any kind of food, what kind would you be and why? I would be a sandwich because so many things can pass for sandwiches. Wraps, hamburgers, pies, and even tacos could be considered sandwiches… they are basically the secret agents of the food world! Although I would unfortunately be eaten (since I would be a food), at least I could go out in style.

If you could have any kind of super power, what would your super power be and why? If I could have any super power I would prefer the ability to control time. This is because I have so many things that I want to do and so many places I want to go to that I could really use the extra time. Also, you could freeze time and do anything you wanted anywhere, learn anything at any time, and most importantly play pranks on your friends with ease.

What about coming to FLC are you most excited about? I am really excited because it’s been a long time since I have been able to use my video production, computer science, wilderness, and language skills all at the same time – at camp I will finally be able to put them all to the test! Moreover, I can’t wait to meet campers and try to make a difference in someone’s summer experience!

Where are you from? London, England

What activities will you be involved in this summer? What excites you about this? I will be teaching Soccer to the Girls Camp. What excites me is that I can’t wait to teach things I’ve grown up learning and hopefully inspire the girls to not only learn new techniques but also gain skills and confidence they may not have had before camp.

What three words best describe you? Umm… Funny, Unique and Adventurous.

What are you most excited to share with your campers this summer? Besides coaching the girls I can’t wait to share my English culture with them. I am excited to share this new adventure in my life that they will be apart of.  I think it will help me grow in confidence as I look to become a PE teacher.

If you could be any kind of food, what kind would you be and why? I would be Spaghetti Bolognese because no matter where I go or what restaurant you choose, you can never go wrong with one. It was also my childhood meal and I remember my mum wanted me to grow in my dinner dishes instead of just sausages and chips, and I tried this and it’s been my favourite dish ever since.

If you could have any kind of super power, what would your super power be and why? I’ve always wanted to have what Sheldon Cooper had; a photographic memory. I always strive for more confidence in my classes and this would help. I also watched the show Twilight and I always wanted to read peoples minds to understand how their minds worked.

What about coming to FLC are you most excited about? I’m excited to have a new routine, learn more about myself and also help girls aspire to try new sports & hobbies. I’m excited to see how all the children will grow in the weeks we are together at camp, not only them but myself as well.

Where are you from? I’m from The Valleys, in South Wales, UK.

What activities will you be involved in this summer? What excites you about this? I will be co-directing Drama this summer. I am so excited that I get to introduce  and share this skill with campers. I can’t wait to bring my passion for drama and performing to camp and possibly ignite the same passions for the campers. Maybe even those who have never tried it before!

What three words best describe you? Creative, Adventurous and Passionate

What are you most excited to share with your campers this summer? I am excited to experience everything about camp life along with the campers. Being my first time at FLC I’m excited to share the experience of becoming one big family! Obviously, I am excited by the prospect of sharing my passion and skills with campers who will be able to look to me for any encouragement, not only in my specific field but in other areas as well. Sharing my patience and attentiveness is something I feel would be an asset to FLC.

If you could be any kind of food, what kind would you be and why? If I could be any food I would be a welsh cake! Why? One obvious reason, I’m from Wales. But also because they’re sweet and dependable. As well as this, welsh cakes can have raisins or jam as filling which means they are adaptable and loved by everyone who comes across them.

If you could have any kind of super power, what would your super power be and why?  I would have the power of multiplicity. That way I could have 8 of me all doing different things and accomplishing 8 times as much as I normally do. I would be 8 times as productive, or see the same play from 8 different angles, helping me with audience POV while directing! Also if there was more of me, I could be more help to more campers at once!

What about coming to FLC are you most excited about?  I am most excited about becoming a role model, as the FLC promise states. To create strong personal relationships with the campers and staff. I am excited about becoming a part of this amazing family, offering my expertise and giving my everything to ensure that this summer is the best it can possibly be.
