This month we are featuring girls’ cabin 2 from our 2014 summer. Reflections from our cabin counselors and campers in this cabin best exemplifies the camaraderie, fun and spirit of cabin life at FLC. It also helps our campers and staff keep their FLC memories alive throughout the year. Thank you to all who shared!
“While I was cleaning out the art room at the end of the summer, I found a piece of artwork by cabin 2’s very own, Vicky Salas. She had drawn a picture of a home with the caption that went something like, ‘Cabin 2 is a magical, beautiful place’. Besides the fact that this piece of artwork reduced me to a trembling ball of tears, I also think that Vicky said it better than any of us could–what we had going in Cabin 2 was magical. The girls were such great friends to each other, and while we had some old friends in the group, it was heartwarming to see the vets open their hearts to the new girls of FLC.
The cleverness of this group was evidenced by their creativity in telling bedtime stories, and their creativity in playing humorous pranks on the counselors!! Girls in Cabin 2 were recognized for Camper of the Week, Rider of the Week, Climber of the Week, Archer of the Week… the list is inexhaustible! Their sense of humor was mature and on point. I speak for all the counselors when I say there wasn’t a day that we didn’t have some new inside joke to share in the cabin. The way they cared for each other and for the FLC community was truly inspiring, and, like Vicky said, fairly magical.” – Allie Baer Chan, counselor
“Life in Cabin 2 is nothing short of extraordinary. With campers coming from all over the world, the mixture of languages and culture in our cabin kept us bubbly and excited. On any given day in Cabin 2, you would likely see intense card games of Spit on the porch, lots of friendship bracelet making, and lots and lots of laughs. We certainly weren’t a quiet cabin! Our constant stream of Taylor Swift music – especially Vicky’s favorite, ’15’ – could be heard all around Girls Camp. One of my favorite memories with my girls from this summer was our Cabin 2 overnight. For dinner, we made homemade pizzas over a campfire, even rolling our own pizza dough. A favorite photograph in particular from that overnight is of Emma, covered in flour and sticky dough, but always all smiles! That’s the way it was with Cabin 2: crazy, messy, full of hugs, full of smiles and full of laughter.” -Emily Fagan, counselor
“My summer at FLC was special because I was able to show my true colors. I could be who I want to be and not who my friends and family want me to be. I really loved all my counselors because they were all so funny and they understood what camp is all about. The reason I love FLC so much is because whenever I am not there…I wish I was.” -Lilly Cook, camper
“My summer at FLC was special because I had the opportunity to do horseback riding with my friends AND, I really loved this because I took care of the horses and I enjoyed those few hours with my friends!” –Gabby Desroches, camper

“This summer was my first summer at FLC – I just loved it and thought it was so awesome to be in the USA and getting to know so many fantastic people. Before I left Denmark I was a little uneasy about going, but as soon as I arrived I just loved it. I just had a blast. I’m so happy about getting to know so many super nice and kind girls – Cabin 2 was the best! Besides all the fantastic people at FLC, I also had the opportunity to try so many different and new activities. I especially loved water skiing and I had tons of fun paddle boarding. Playing lacrosse was awesome and climbing the wall was also a great experience. I cannot wait until next summer!” –Emilie Hanson, camper
“My summer at FLC was special because I met new people and became close with them. I really loved this because I can’t wait to see them again next summer!” –Olivia Wilson, camper
“My summer at FLC was great because I saw old friends and met new friends. I liked this because I had more opportunities to meet new people.” –Emily Ruediger, camper
“My summer was special because we did so many fun things, like when we hid our counselor’s bitty baby in the cabin and when Olivia used bitty as her special item at girls campfire.” –Michaela Adelman, camper
“My summer at FLC was special because at night sometimes we would laugh at things that at home would not be funny. I like this because I can be my own giggly self at FLC.” –Emma Blanck, camper
“My summer at FLC was special because every summer at FLC is special. I love FLC because I get to ride a lot. There were so many fun activities to choose from this summer. I loved my summer at FLC. -Kenzie Kelly, camper
