Dance, Drama, Theatre, and Music
An important part of a well-rounded camp program is to provide campers with the opportunity to participate in the arts. Forest Lake Camp offers all its campers opportunities to express themselves artistically. Our performing arts departments (dance, drama, and music) teach basic skills and guide the campers toward a final performance at the end of each full session. We have staff trained in each of the arts and they bring a level of expertise, professionalism and safety that provide campers with the skills to expand their horizons and jump out of their comfort zones.
Campers of all skill levels take part and benefit from the opportunity to perform before an audience. It is always a favorite night for the entire camp to get together and enjoy the shows.
Crafts and Woodworking
In our arts and crafts department, our campers can draw, paint, practice beadwork, make puppets, do wood burnings, create ceramic masterpieces, do costuming, make kites, and the list goes on and on. Each year, different projects are made available to our campers so every year there is something new and exciting for our campers to learn.
We have a skilled staff of woodworks ready to teach essential carpentry skills. Veteran FLC seniors can work on larger projects like Adirondack chairs that remain on permanent display for years at camp (with their names and camp session years burned into the wood). Regular projects can include cutting boards, bird houses, tic tac toe games, picture frames and more.
Rocketry and Science
Our science department gives campers the opportunity to learn about the surroundings around them and discover things they may have never known. Campers will explore and learn about the vegetation around camp as well as the numerous critters that live in the Adirondack Park.
Rocketry is a favorite part of the science department and campers can build their own model rockets from scratch. At the end of each session there is a show where campers launch their rockets and display the fruits of their labor.
