Here are just a few of the many counselors who are returning for summer 2017! We are so excited about the strong new and returning staff that we have this summer. Our staff are as excited as our campers for the start of summer 2017! Hear from a few and learn why.
What is your name? Hello! My name Is Dan Graham
How many summers have you been coming to FLC? This will be my third of hopefully many summers at FLC.
Why do you return to FLC each summer? Explain! The campers! Where else in the world can an Englishman play soccer with Venezuelans, sing in the mess hall with Americans and share a cabin with the Chinese?! I love all of the different nationalities that we are lucky enough to have at camp and make friends with people from all different countries of the world! Oh, and the views aren’t bad either!
What do you teach at FLC and what do you love about these things? I coach Soccer at FLC- I love it because….. FLC’S A FORTRESS!! I love getting down to the soccer field every day and watching all of the campers try their absolute best during the soccer periods and then reaping the rewards when we beat Eco Lake or ADK!!!
What has FLC taught you about yourself or the world we live in? FLC has taught me to appreciate all of the fantastic things in this world without electronics! Such as hiking up mountains, boating in a lake and just how many different everyday objects can be placed on a human’s head! However, it has also taught me what 100 boys singing Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake if off’ sounds like, and let me tell you, It’s not good! Maybe this year we can sing one of her other ones?
What three words best describe you? Funny, Kind and helpful (I Hope!!)
Share one FLC memory you have had with your campers. I’ve had some fantastic moments at FLC and playing Soccer outside of camp myself- but probably my most favorite of them all would have to be the first ADK game we played last year. We won 1-0 and I can remember the whole game! Ava scored a great goal and then everyone involved played fantastically to make sure we held on for the win. The support from the rest of camp was fantastic too, with Parents and fellow campers up on the Bank cheering for FLC! During the game I was so nervous I chewed through my note book and it was the worst 60 minutes of my life- but the feeling after the full time whistle went will be a feeling I won’t ever forget! During the off season, myself Luke and Will have come up with a few ideas to try and improve the atmosphere even more during those important matches!
What do you miss most about your time at FLC during the off-season? Everything! (can I say that?) From the campers and Counsellors to Uncle Paul and all his kitchen crew and all of the scenery at camp to waking up every morning with reveille. In fact, When I got home after my first year at camp I downloaded a reveille sound on my phone so now every morning for the last 2 years I’ve woken up to the sound of reveille!

What is your name? Emily Brew
How many summers have you been coming to FLC? This summer will be my 7th!
Why do you return to FLC each summer? Explain! It’s kind of hard to put into words, but there is this incredibly unique but special atmosphere at camp that is simply unrivaled anywhere else. In the ‘real world’ we are succumbed to so much pressure and that pressure literally doesn’t exist at camp, we can just enjoy ourselves, learn more about ourselves and activities we genuinely enjoy, and have fun.
What do you teach at FLC and what do you love about these things? I pretty much teach all sports, but my favorites are basketball, soccer and lacrosse. I actually first learned how to play lacrosse at camp and now play at home, so it’s really cool for me to now teach it to people for the first time. Additionally, a lot of my fondest memories as a camper are from sports days and playing sports so I love helping campers create those memories too!
What has FLC taught you about yourself or the world we live in? Obviously after 7 years I have learned a lot, but I think the most important lesson I have learned is the importance in stepping outside your comfort zone.
What three words best describe you? Warm, Enthusiastic, and kind
Share one FLC memory you have had with your campers? As a cabin we created a bucket list of fun things we wanted to do throughout the summer, but one thing the girls were really keen on doing was showering in the rain (with bathing suits). So one morning in the middle of cabin clean up it was literal torrential downpour and we all kind of looked at each other and were thinking the same thing: “it’s time”. So we all quickly changed into our bathing suits, blasted some music, and achieved one of our (many) cabin bucket list checks. We may not have done too well on clean up that day, but we certainly had a ton of fun. One camper claimed it was the best day of her life.
What do you miss most about your time at FLC during the off-season? I think what I miss most are the random, but such fun memories you create at camp. You would never go and shower outside in bathing suits with a bunch of friends at home. I can’t wait to be back at camp to create more memories with everyone this summer!

Andy (Skittles) Menard
How many summers have you been coming to FLC? I have spent one summer at FLC and I am super excited to be coming back for my second!!
Why do you return to FLC each summer? FLC is such a special place where you make lifelong friends in such a short span of time. I come back to camp for the great people, amazing outdoor setting, and the chance to work with great kids.
What do you teach at FLC and what do you love about these things? Last summer I got the opportunity to run some ultimate Frisbee sessions with the campers. I also headed up wilderness periods, spent time at the rock wall, and probably my favorite part of camp was helping out at the waterfront.
What has FLC taught you about yourself or the world we live in? Before coming to camp I was in a major at school that did not really suit me and camp helped me realize that I want to become a teacher!! This past summer also helped me to come out of my shell as a person which in turn enabled me to do the same to some of the shyer campers. Without camp my life would look a lot different.
What three words best describe you? Energetic, goofy, and patient
Share one FLC memory you have had with your campers. What do you miss most about your time at FLC during the off-season? During camp every cabin has the opportunity to go on an overnight outside. Some of the campers were a bit hesitant about the trip but in the morning when making pancakes by campfire everyone was laughing, helping to cook and overall having a great time. It was a heartwarming scene to see kids appreciate being in the outdoors as much as I do. When I am at camp it is the most relaxed that I am and during the off season I really miss that.

How many summers have you been coming to FLC? This will be my 12th summer at FLC
Why do you return to FLC each summer? It’s hard to explain because it’s tough to explain an emotion let alone several. The experiences I have at FLC are the best I have had throughout any summer of my life. There is a certain kind of bliss you experience when you return to camp and see friends who you haven’t seen forever. It’s a home that no one else would be able to understand if you explained it to them. For a short time, out of the year I get to leave my worries and go to a whole other world that somehow stays just the way I left it from the previous summer. We all just pick up where we left off.
What do you teach at FLC and what do you love about these things? For a couple years, I had been running the theatre program with the help of a co-director. I love the theatre. It’s something that I study at home and hope to pursue as a career. Working with the campers in theatre during the summer gives them a chance to show off in front of their friends and act crazier than usual. Making a fool of yourself is something we should all get used to doing occasionally. Currently I will be returning to lead the LIT program this year. It’s something I’m looking forward to. Being an LIT is one of the best things a camper can experience while at camp.
What has FLC taught you about yourself or the world we live in? FLC has helped me be more honest with myself and understand myself better. It’s taught me to be kinder to people and more responsible. I’m very happy with the person I have become and the choices I’ve made because of the experiences I had at FLC.
What three words best describe you? The three words that best describe me would be patient, understanding, and fun.
Share one FLC memory you have had with your campers. One of my favorite memories is when we were in the mess hall. At one of the meals someone had said something and everyone started to laugh. The laughter did not stop throughout the entire meal and even we were having a hard time calming down. For a brief second we were all campers together and no one looked at each other as camper or counselor.
What do you miss most about your time at FLC during the off-season? The things I miss most is being able to wake up in a place where everyone knows who you are and is willing to talk to you. No one dreads being there or is stressed because of deadlines. Being able to spend time with people and share very specific experiences as well.
