Over the past 10 years FLC has significantly improved our facilities. In addition to building the Confer Pavilion, the gorgeous new Mess Hall and the super cool new staff yurt, we have renovated more than 10 bathrooms, redone 12 roofs, added new cabin decks and improved several other areas. As a result of the great work of Gary Confer, we have maintained and improved our beautiful grounds and fields while also planting new trees and bushes and ensuring the grasses are green and the natural beauty is preserved. Now, we are thrilled to let our entire FLC family know about more exciting changes coming next summer.
At the risk of jumping the gun on some projects that are in the planning stages, we can’t help sharing a few major projects that are just kicking off and we hope will be ready for next summer:
1) We have already broken ground for a new cabin in girls camp! Enrollment in girls camp has been absolutely busting at the seams and it is time that we added a much needed cabin for our Junior Girls. The cabin will be located to the left of Wigwam as you look up from the road and has been designed to fit nicely with the look and feel of all junior girls cabins. It will have its own porch and be able to sleep 12 campers and 2 counselors; bringing the total number of beds in girls camp even with boys camp. Stay tuned to this space as we may look for assistance as we figure out what to name the cabin!
2) Over the past several years we have been operating our tennis program with just 2 courts. Last year we resurfaced those courts and they look beautiful. This year we are adding a third court for our campers to enjoy! This new court will be located in the spot where a third court lived a few decades ago where we currently have girls basketball and the dance pavilion. Rest assured though, dance is not going away . . . we have a plan for that!
3) The biggest project, and one we are fairly optimistic will be completed for the start of next summer, will be a purpose built arts center down on the old clay courts behind the girls camp soccer field. At FLC we are extremely proud of our arts programs and cannot wait to improve our facilities and enhance these offerings. This pole barn structure will house a new dance studio along with our music department, arts & crafts, pottery and eventually science. The spaces will be bright and open and we cannot wait for the expression on campers faces when they see this new building.
If this were not enough, you will be happy to know that we will continue to upgrade bathrooms, roofs, decks, doors, windows etc throughout the off season. Tyler and Gary will be quite busy! We cannot wait to share all these exciting enhancements to FLC with you!
